That's crazy! How does that happen?
Hey Julia, Deep-Dish-TV Staff here,
Well it actually isn't that complicated.
The privitizing of American prisons is the practice of special intrest groups buying prison complexes and making profits off of the prisoners labor.
In that sense, their labor could be used for a great deal of things, from tela-marketing to digging foundations; resulting in unfair pay for the workers/prisoners.
In this sense, more private prisons are being built, which means adverage citizens can buy stock in those prisons, and when you buy stock in a company, you want that company to progress...and how does a prison progress...through jailing more people.
THis kind of situation does not at all focus on the rehabilitation of the prisoners. THe idea that people are making a profit off of jailing other people is an uneasy feeling.
If nothing here I said made any sense to you at all, then just wikipedia the phrase "prison industrial complex."
Thanks for the intrest. Stay out of trouble and out of jail haha
